Class A CDL Spot Truck Driver

The Spot Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating semi-trucks, trailers, and military trucks to transport pine straw and related materials from field locations to designated trailer drop yards or staging areas. This position supports field-to-yard logistics and plays a key role in maintaining safe and efficient production.

This role does not include customer deliveries and operates exclusively within Truck Cor II’s farm operations. A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required, along with the ability to safely maneuver trucks and trailers over uneven terrain, through fields, and within confined staging areas.

When not moving trailers, the Spot Truck Driver may assist with inspections, basic maintenance, trailer organization, yard coordination, documentation, and other operational tasks as assigned.

Success in this role requires a strong commitment to safety, dependable communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining Truck Cor II’s standards of professionalism and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate semi-trucks and trailers in farm, field, yard, and staging environments.
  • Operate Mack trucks, military trucks, and similar spot trucks as assigned.
  • Move trailers between field locations, drop yards, and designated staging areas.
  • Jockey trailers in and out of fields as needed to support production.
  • Safely navigate uneven terrain, narrow roads, field entrances, and confined spaces.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers.
  • Identify and report equipment issues, safety concerns, or needed repairs in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with field supervisors and production teams regarding trailer movement and availability.
  • Use maps, GPS, and company communication tools to locate fields, yards, and trailers.
  • Operate safely in changing weather and field conditions.

Reporting and Communication

  • Maintain accurate truck, trailer, inspection, and movement logs as assigned.
  • Communicate trailer locations, breakdowns, delays, and operational issues promptly.
  • Provide timely updates to supervisors and team members as needed.
  • Follow company procedures for documentation and reporting.

Maintenance and Equipment Support

  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on semi-trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
  • Use basic hand tools and power tools safely.
  • Assist with minor repairs or troubleshooting when qualified and assigned.
  • Work with supervisors and mechanics to ensure equipment issues are addressed effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Keep trucks, trailers, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all Truck Cor II safety policies and applicable farm vehicle, transportation, and equipment requirements.
  • Use safe work practices and maintain awareness of employees, equipment, terrain, and traffic while moving trailers.
  • Report all safety concerns, equipment defects, incidents, or near misses promptly.
  • Operate trucks and trailers in a safe, professional, and responsible manner.

Qualifications and Characteristics

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid medical card, if required for company farm operations.
  • Experience operating semi-trucks required.
  • Experience maneuvering trailers in fields, yards, or tight spaces preferred.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and willingness to assist with inspections and minor maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of safe vehicle and equipment operation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain accurate logs and records.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in hot, cold, rainy, dusty, or muddy conditions.
  • Dependable, safety-minded, and able to work with urgency during seasonal production periods.
